Enactus SRCC (formerly SIFE SRCC) organized during CrossRoads a one of its kind event – LEAP. During SRCC’s Annual cultural fest Crossroads, Enactus SRCC in collaboration with the Travelers Society, SRCC organized – LEAP which was a part of the adventure festival of the Travelers Society called the Escapades. LEAP literally stands for Life On Wheels(LOW) Escapades Adventure Program.

The Travelers Society SRCC is relatively a newer name in the history of SRCC societies. Instituted in the year 2008, the Travelers Society organizes trips, tours and excursions for the college students. Also they have their annual fest during the CrossRoads where they primarily have an adventure festival.

Organized on the 2nd of March, LEAP was a day full of fun, enjoyment and excitement. It was a Saturday full of fun, frolic and adventure for the children of the rickshaw-pullers which are already under the purview of their ongoing project Life On Wheels. The project facilitates micro credit for rickshaw pullers to enable them to purchase their own rickshaw, rather than hire them from exploitative contractors. Due to lack of collateral, rickshaw pullers are unable to obtain credit for themselves. Enactus, SRCC has partnered with Punjab National Bank to help rickshaw pullers overcome this problem by acting as guarantors for their loans. The loan amount covers the cost of the rickshaw, uniform, life and asset insurance. Within a year, the rickshaw puller is able to finish his loan repayment and become the proud owner of his rickshaw.
As many as 20 kids aged 7 – 15 turned up for the 3 hour event organized on the 2nd of March (the last day of the CrossRoads). This was a 3 hour event which started sometime around 9 in the morning. An introductory session was organized at the beginning of the event familiarizing each child with their whereabouts. This was basically an ice breaking session which helped children get comfortable and bring them up to the mood gearing them all for the events to come.
Various adventure activities were organized for the kids during the entire event. Adventure activities for children included – Zorbing, Trampoline Volleyball, Flying Fox and Bouncy Boxing. Various other game events were also in place for the children like Soccer, Throw Ball and Dodge Ball. After the events the children were provided with the refreshments to relax them down after a fun-day of tiring activities. An interactive session followed thereafter which was primarily a feedback session in which the children gave their feedback about the experiences of the day. “It was a memorable day for all the children” was the common conclusion that was generated.

The entire event was successfully organized and co-ordinated by Enactus SRCC and Travelers Society. It was a work well done. Where the entire college was deeply delved into the fashion and the cultural fiesta, there was a cluster of like-minded people lighting someone else’s life. Truly living on the principles of “Live and Let Live” these are such people who still make people retain their trust in something called “humanity”.

With fast paced crises proposed at regular intervals, the 250 delegates were required to think on their feet and propose feasible solutions. Heated discussions, logical debates and innovative solutions formed the core of the conference. Day 2 was announced as the cultural day by the convenors and saw delegates dressed in the official traditional attires of the countries they were representing. With this added touch of colour,

the discussions resumed with renewed vigour and continued till the end of the event after which various honours and recommendations were announced and certificates were handled along with other goodies like t-shirts.

Overall the event came through on everything it promised and much more. Going by the number of congratulatory messages received on the event’s page on FB for their huge success, this MUN has turned a lot of heads and made enthusiasts out of MUN regulars and amateurs alike from schools and colleges all over Delhi.

Zeal Dance Society, Maitreyi College

University of Delhi is known for having skyrocketing standards when it comes to Western Dance. Season after season, the dance culture in the University has created staunch rivalries, fierce competition, bottleneck climax, everlasting friendships and life enduring memories.

Talking of this year's season, if we were to name one team whose name has reverberated the campus walls of almost every college in the University, it has to be Zeal Dance Society, Maitreyi  College. With victories in over 15 colleges this season which include the likes of Shri Ram College of Commerce, BITS Pilani, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Kirori Mal College, Hans Raj College, St. Stephens, Faculty of Management Studies and many more, the girls of Zeal Dance Society have emerged as undisputed queens of Western Dance. The team also bagged the top position at the dance event in Nokia Indiafest - a national level event held at Goa.

What made all this possible? "It was the motivational support of our super-seniors, determination of the present seniors and constant co-operation of the juniors that kept us going. Most importantly, it was the belief that proved to be the driving force.", says Manat Bajaj, Senior Member.

The different dance styles that Zeal has incorporated in its 8 minutes 30 seconds sequence are: Hip Hop, House, Bollywood, Contemporary and Whacking.

The team is self- choreographed and credits its music edit to Mr. Mihir Gulati.

5th and 6th of March 2013 saw Motilal Nehru College once again open its gates and welcomed the University crowd for its annual Economics Society fest, Ecoverve’13. Though majorly an offering for the commerce buffs, Ecoverve’13 did a pretty decent job by catering to the expectations of the students from other backgrounds by keeping them more than just occupied with its filler events, such as ‘Aim Dart’ and ‘Poster Making’.

Ecoverve’13 was formally inaugurated by Prof. Arun Kumar, faculty member Jawaharlal Nehru University, at around 9 in the morning. Half an hour later, in a seminar he addressed young eager minds on ‘Black Economy’, a topic on which, he has numerous articles and a book too to his credit.

Prof. Kumar talked about the need for a more proactive approach to the growing issue of prevailing Black or parallel economy, which if not curbed soon would eat into the country’s economic foundations, emptying our coffers, and strengthening the federal reserve of foreign countries, all at our expense.

Picture
The seminar, much appreciated by the listeners in a way set things rolling in the right direction for the fest and “Griller the Quiz”, Ecoverve’13’s next offering did well to keep it that way. A nicely contested event won eventually by Avlok Juneja and Nalin Jain. Madhuri Bucha and Neha Jain comprised the Runner-up team. The next event was “Mock Stock” where the participants tried to simulate real life stock exchange situations. Event winners were Rahul Gupta and Mayank Agarwal. The last event of the day was, “Young Managers” with its declaration of the winners, Mayank Gaur and Krishanu Sharma from signalled curtains for a very fine first day of Ecoverve’13.

The Society also organized a drive ‘Sparkle’ which aims to collect items of daily needs like clothing, food etc. and the proceeds of which will be donated to an NGO.

Picture
As we all know, its quality that matters and not quantity. The foot fall in MLNC for Ecoverve'13 wasn't that large but people who came seemed really talented. The second day at Ecoverve started with GD consisting of three rounds. The topics being:
a.) Politicized Monarchy
b.) Women make better bosses than men
c.) Is technological improvement\advancement responsible for degradation of our social fabric.

Picture
The Group Discussion seemed really interesting with participants from more than 6 colleges. Next they had debate, for which the topic was, “Whether INDIA can be a developing nation and an agriculture based nation at the same time?”

The debate saw a number of participants. It was followed by Ad-mad. The creativity of the participants was commendable as they came up with many interesting ads at ECOVERVE'13 and like every year it was a big hit. The reason for the success of the ECOVERVE'13 was the hard work put in by the Organizing Committee who worked really hard to make the event a Grand Success!
ECOVERVE'13 ended on a good note and with the hope that ECOVERVE'14 will be Bigger And Better.
