Caste Away is the only AIESEC initiative in the world that addresses a unique form of prejudice and discrimination that affects the Indian Society (over 1/6th of the world's population) and afflicts a community of the oppressed caste or 'Dalits' (17% of India's population). . .At this very moment, this project strives to spread awareness and help eradicate caste based prejudice amongst the student community of Delhi. International interns, AIESECers and other student volunteers from Delhi work with the National Campaign on Dalit Human Rights (NCDHR) and other caste-based NGOs to create a social campaign through which they hope to initiate a domino effect of sensitization towards casteism. On 19th March, 2013, a poetry night was organized by the Caste-Away  in Hauz Khas village, Delhi. The evening was colored in poetry and noteworthy views on the related issue were shared by the participants in form of touching words. Prominent personalities like Meena Kandasamy, first Indian woman writer, who writes Dalit poetry in English and Dr. Jaipraksh Kardam shared their views on the issue. It was one of those much needed awareness campaigns against the evils like untouchability that can transform the insular mindset of the society indisputably, and it was definitely a success.

The University of Delhi has an old, unbreakable and rock solid relationship with numbers. From the hot cut offs to the cold marks and numerous insensible innovations like merging of courses such as BBE, BBS and BFIA; the list just goes on.

Recently the biggest Central University in India has come up with the revaluated mark sheet and yet again the DU bosses gave away an artificial smile by delivering highly inflated marks. The result speaks clearly that a student who scored 12/75 in one of the theory papers, witnessed an increase of about 30 marks to get into 40s. Most of the papers that went under the revaluation process got cleared with a huge margin. We are not questioning the capabilities of the students but we are questioning the authorities of an esteem University who claimed that their checking process undergoes a refined process.

Picture
Few months ago, the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Dinesh Singh claimed that the answer sheet will undergo a 3 stage correction process which would eliminate any scope of errors that might arise otherwise. 3 stages – a number game, yet again! No wonder, DU is led by a mathematician, Dr. Singh himself!

Critically analyzing the reign of Mr. Singh, we saw numerous innovations on the positive side. However, most of them being illogical turned the coin completely. The disorganized semester system where the syllabus is confirmed after a month when the semester starts was already under the hit list of many students. The haphazard syllabus was enough to take away the freedom and destroy the flexibility of the students, but the authorities are not yet relaxed. From wrong papers to inflated marks to non serious checking is doing no good to the education system. Feel for a student who worked hard the entire semester and got an ER in one of the subject. We live in a country full of competition where people still give importance to marks and less to knowledge. Such lazy attitude of the authorities thrashes the confidence of many students who do not get what they actually deserve.

Picture
Recently the authorities have taken away the specialization from the undergraduate management courses. Yet another step to change the system positively, maybe! The 4 years undergraduate degree in humanities sounds good but has its own negative side. Are we moving in a society where people are literally jack of all and sufferer of number games? Only future can tell.

Picture
The authorities must try to improve the existing system rather than experimenting new ones. Either the papers that went under the 3 stages of checking delivered incorrect results and exposed the casual approach of the DU bosses OR the inflated and revaluated marks are incorrect proving DU a diplomatic institution.

I might not be a good mathematics student; maybe a zero but one cannot imagine mathematics without a zero!

The golden question remains unanswered and we still close our books hoping for a better future.

The analogy of the corporate world has never failed to excite the senses. Wearing formal suits, attending boardroom meetings, giving presentations about matters that can make or break a company and leading the group,  are some of the many things that envelope this profession with the enigma that unfailingly entices us to its charm. But can everybody embrace the power and authority that it imbibes one with, in the way it ought to be?

Synergy, a society of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies began the quest for this answer by conducting D’Apprentice National from 16th-19th March. This popular venture of SSCBS crossed the boundaries of the National Capital Territory this year to find out the best lot of the entire nation.

Three rounds were conducted to filter out top 100 students from the huge lot of applicants from the entire nation. The first and second rounds were conducted online by way of forms testing the logical and analytical reasoning, and the subjective choice and interpretation of conflicting situations, respectively. The students who had cleared these two rounds proceeded further to the Group Activity round, which then extracted the top 100 students for the four days lined up for their corporate nourishment. Day 0 sought to bring together the experiences of the industry with the youthful energy of the country by means of a Corporate Dinner. The Chief Guest was Mr. SN Rai, Co - founder & Director, LAVA International and the four panellists were Moraad Ali Khan, one of the top shooters of India and Arjuna Award winner, Ish Kapoor, owner of Dhanpat Rai Publications, Pankaj Mohindroo, President of Indian Cellular Association, Apex Telecom Body and Editor in Chief of My Mobile Magazine and Hemant Misra, CEO, Publicis Capital in India. The panellists interacted with the top 100 students regarding business and management.

Picture
The main events to test the business acumen and strategical orientation of these students began from Day 1 itself. Day 1 saw Ajay Chaturvedi, Founder and Owner of Harva, interacting with the students regarding innovation ground up. After this, the teams, top 100 students divided into 8 teams were given a case study revolving around a problem in a village background. These teams were then asked to design a mobile application to solve the problem. A technical analyst then gave scores to these teams on the basis of innovation, feasibility and the pitch used by them to sell it to villagers and to him.

Day 2 grew more interesting as students were asked to select a theme from Entertainment category and were given Rs. 4000 to purchase materials on the basis of the chosen theme from any market in Delhi and return to the venue in the stipulated time. The twist in the picture was when these teams were told that the materials they had purchased were not their products and all the teams had to auction for it.  Two teams were eliminated on the basis of the scores of these 2 days. Also, the one weak team member from each team was eliminated on the basis of the convergence of the judgement of their own team members and the organizing team.
